About the Artwork
Portovenere, is a very pretty and historic fishing town, on the rugged Italian Riviera Coast, and is known as the "sixth" Cinque Terre town (the other five towns are: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore).
Portovenere offers a beautiful seaside setting, with colourful houses built into the rocky hillside, with fortified walls to protect it from potential invaders. It's a picturesque part of the world to walk, height, eat, swim and watch the sun rise and set over the ocean.
Ross is fascinated by the region's rich colours, and architectural charm and this is one of a few pieces where he has captured the beauty of the area in his unique style.
"There are many views of the well known “Cinque Ports” which are a major tourist destination. It was always my intention to paint one of the ports. Here is the result!"
