About the Artwork

Grafton Street is Dublin's primary shopping street South of the River Liffey and extends from St Stephen's Green to College Green. It was named after Charles Fitzroy the second Duke of Grafton, the illegitimate son of King Charle the Second. It is well-known for it's pubs, street entertainment, busking and, socialising in Bewleys Oriental Cafe which opened in 1927.

Ross says that he remembers the street well. In the days before it became filled with traffic and, before it was finally pedestrianised in 1982. He has sketched the street from many angles over the years.

This view down Grafton Street from a vantage point close to St. Stephen's Green, is Ross's 2017 interpretation, sketched freehand in Staedtler liner pen and then painted in watercolour.
