About the Artwork
Loughrigg has some of the most beautiful and breath-taking walks in all of Cumbria and the Lake District, and was one of the most loved spots of poet William Wordsworth. With some of the best views of Windermere, Grasmere and Rydal Water, it's a popular spot with hikers and amblers, as people come to walk around the surrounding fells and the natural lake.Ross grew up close by to the Lake District and has visited and painted it's many magical landscapes, mountains and lakes over the years. This colourful depiction of Loughrigg Tarn has a view from a stile down towards the lake, and one can almost imagine climbing over that stile on a walk and stopping to take a breath and enjoy the view. A wonderful painting for fans of the Lake District.
Ross says
"I have painted a number of landscapes of Windermere over the years, but never from this viewpoint. The Lake District was within a day’s cycle ride of my childhood home and I have visited the area many times, so know it well. The outline was first roughed out in charcoal. Then an acrylic wash was applied and the main features brushed in. I then turned to palette knifes to add texture and colour during the later stages, when paint was applied with abandon!"
