About the Artwork
Corraun Hill is a beautiful, picturesque area in County Mayo, extending out from the mainland coast towards Achill Island. It's a spot of great natural beauty, where there are beautiful beaches and hikes.
Corraun is dominated by Corraun Hill and there are spectacular views all around of Achill Sound, Clew Bay, Clare Island and the Mullet Peninsula. Here the rugged beauty and earthy colours of the Hill and depicted in Ross's unique style.
Ross says
"This painting of Achill Sound with Corraun Hill in the background was done so that I can add the image to my Powerpoint proposals for a “Mayo Energy Hub” that I am also working on. It’s hard to imagine that I have a concept design for a mega-sized Reservoir 4km in circumference, at the far side of this hill some 400 metres beyond the summit. Painting was laid out in watercolour, then worked over with a palette knife and finally finished off with fine brushwork for the detail".
