About the Artwork
Ross has spent a lot of time visiting the River Shannon for his Concept Design Project for the River. (www.shannonsuperhighway.com) His visit to Clonmacnoise in 2016 was on one of these occasions,
The Abbey at Clonmacnoise founded in the 6th Century by St. Ciaran is strategically located on the banks of the River Shannon in County Offaly. It is the foremost Early Christian Irish monastery city.
Ross say's that he was impressed by the tranquility of the Monastery and looked for a vantage point to take photographs, with the intention of creating a studio painting. This pen and watercolour is Ross's interpretation of the selected scene.
