About the Artwork

Green Street Courthouse, designed by Whitmore Davis architect, has a rich history going back to 1797. It was built on the "Little Green" a part of St. Mary's Abbey lands. A site chosen due to it's proximity to Newgate Prison.

Notable trials at the Courthouse included those of Robert Emmet in 1803, John Mitchel in 1848 and various Fenian leaders.

This artwork in freestyle line and bright colour is immediately identifiable as a Ross Ecles painting.
