The Lock Keeper's House in Banagher Park, is part of the old River Shannon Navigation, designed by Thomas Omer, a Dutch canal engineer in the mid 18th century. Lockhouses were traditionally built to manage water levels and assist with canal traffic.
Ross say's that he spent many hours investigating the old Shannon Navigation, while developing his www.shannonsuperhighway.com concept. This is one of several painting studies he made at the time.
