St. Peter's Basilica, Rome
Working on this original pen & watercolour painting of St. Peter's Square, The Basilica and the Vatican, brought back distant memories of school days.
During Easter of 1953, I had the privilege of visiting Florence (The Uffizi Gallery) & Rome on a school trip. This was shortly after the end of WW2 and tourism at that time was virtually non-existent. As well as visiting St. Peter's Basilica, we were fortunate enough to view the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel painted in fresco to by Michelangelo and the Vatican art collection. The trip was a life-changing experience for me and an introduction to a World of Art, I would later embrace!
