It's where Ireland's\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the High Court and the Dublin Circuit Court are based. The buildings were constructed in the 1700's, based on the designs of Architect Thomas Cooley. Much of the buildings were destroyed in the civil uprising of 1922, when they were occupied by Republican forces, but were rebuilt and restored, opening again in 1932 and remains standing today. The façade still shows bullet holes, which were deliberately left as a reminder of the buildings troubled and complex history.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eRoss has painted The Four Courts many times during his career, often from different angles and views. The Parliament Buildings were designed by architect Arnold Thornely, and constructed by Stewart \u0026amp; Partners. The building was purpose designed and built to house the new parliament in the 1920's and 1930's, and in the late 1990's became the permanent home to the new Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive, following the Good Friday Agreement. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe main building is 365ft long, one foot for every day of the year. Painting was quickly sketched out in pencil, then blocked out in acryic using a brush. The final application of thicker paint was applied with a palette knife and piece of stick. In the days before it became filled with traffic and, before it was finally pedestrianised in 1982.
